The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching safe boating and water-skiing techniques to its members and the general public. The team performs twice weekly ski shows from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and uses its shows as a platform for educating and entertaining. The organization receives no public funding. None of its members are paid. In fact, all members pay to belong to the organization. More than 80% of its revenue is derived from fund-raising and hosting events such as the national tournament and its annual haunted house. All of the proceeds go back into the organization for equipment, boats, motors, fuel, costumes, insurance, maintenance and upkeep at its show site in Traxler Park. There are mutliple ways for interested individuals and businesses to support our organization. 1. Annual Friends of the Rock Aqua Jays campaign for unrestricted contributions. Download pledge form. Flood Relief Contributions The unprecedented flooding of 2008 is the sixth flood event in the last five years. Severe flooding in 2004 kept us off the water for nearly seven weeks. Flash flooding in August 2007 shortened our season by three weeks. Early spring flooding in 2008 resulted in a loss of three weeks of practice. Ten days later we experienced historic flooding that left Traxler Park looking like a lake and sending water over U.S. Highway 51 and on Main Street in downtown Janesville. Previous floods have caused damage, most of which we were able to repair or replace at little cost. This time, however, we know that there is significant damage to our dock, stage, grounds and clubhouse. Nearly every piece of wood used to build the decking for our main dock and our entire stage will have to be replaced as will all of the green outdoor carpeting. The interior of our clubhouse had 30 inches of water inside as of June 22. While the clubhouse building is made of brick the interior consists primarily of wood cabinets, walls, shelves and more. Our beach and landscaping is likely severely diminished and possibly even gone altogether. We estimate that it will cost $40,000 to as much as $100,000 to repair and replace everything that we expect to be damaged. We won't know exactly how much it will be until we are able to see what the flooding left behind. If you are interested in helping us recover, we would appreciate any contribution you are able to give. Send your contributions to our post office address shown above and mark it for RAJ Flood Relief. Thank you! |
